The Crosley Mite
This is a photo of the original Mooney M-18 with the water-cooled Crosley engine probably taken in 1948.
The aircraft had a gross weight of 700 lbs., a baggage capacity of 20 lbs., a fuel capacity of 8 gallons, and 1 gallon of coolant. The Va (maneuvering speed) was 89 mph, and the Vne (never exceed speed) was 120 mph. The Crosley engine was rated at 25 h.p. @3900 r.p.m. For further details, read Max Karant's excellent article.
Notice the belly radiator air scoop and the "flying bomb" logo, unique to the early M-18 paint scheme, at the leading end of the body stripe.
