Ben,

I have been spending some time on the Internet searching out aircraft which might qualify for our event this year and I found some information on your Mooney Mite on their Type Club site.

I am the Western Region Coordinator for the National Aviation Heritage Invitational, an event which has been held annually for the past 7 years recognizing organizations or individuals who have restored aircraft to their original condition. The event is a competition open to all aircraft at least 45 years old and in original condition or in a configuration of the aircraft that was available at least 45 years ago. Trophies are presented in the Antique, Classic and Military categories, as well as People's Choice, voted on by the public, and the overall Heritage Trophy for the grand champion. The Western Region competition is held at Stead Airport, Reno, NV, and held in conjunction with the Reno Air Races. This year's dates are September 13-17. The National Aviation Heritage Invitational is jointly sponsored by the Reno Air Race Foundation, Rolls-Royce North America, the National Air and Space Smithsonian and the National Aviation Hall of Fame.

In order to attend an individual submits an application for consideration, which includes contact information, aircraft information and photos which adequately show the present condition of the aircraft. This is done through the web site http://www.HeritageTrophy.org. The site will also provides access to the judging rules, information about the History of the Heritage Invitational, Past Winners and judging categories. Once the application is submitted, the Heritage Invitational panel of five judges reviews the application and determines if the aircraft is eligible for judging. If the application is approved, Rolls-Royce will sends the applicant a letter of invitation to the event.

I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, an expert on the Mooney Mite, but the photo of your aircraft looks like it could be substantially original. If you feel that the aircraft might qualify for our event, please visit the Heritage Trophy site and submit an application and let our judges make the final determination.

If you have any questions about the event or the application process, please contact me and I will help you in any way that I can.
