The weather was typical of Lompoc in October: morning low cloud with a ceiling of 1000 ft clearing by 11:00 with brisk winds from the west.
Three Mites graced the show area: Scott Lewis' N4096, Ed Mandibles' N325M, and Cliff Tatum's N4055.
We were pleased to welcome new WAMM member, Cliff Tatum, from Redondo Beach, CA. Cliff recently purchased his beautiful Mite down in Texas and is enjoying it immensely.
Ed and Cliff are probably discussing formation flying techniques.
Ed, Mike Madrid and Dave Rutherford relaxing in the hangar provided by Lompoc locals, Buddy Plo and Land McCarley.
"Rib Guru" Wild Bill Garrotte and Buddy Plo show off the ribs that we later enjoyed on the traditional Friday night BBQ.
Dave and Mina Mandibles in conversation, while little old Lucy gets a rub.
Ed, Cliff, Michael Harms and Scott discuss formation flying, which they did later in the morning.
A closer look at Cliff's N4055, a 1951 M-18L with the Lycoming O-145 engine.
Cliff just arrived. We'd hoped to see more Miters that day, but it was not to be.
Cliff arrived with a scratch on his arm and received some attention from Ed.
Michael, Cliff and Ed admire N4055, especially the canopy cover - something not seen before at WAMM.
Scott had to leave early to attend to some family business. Cliff, Michael, Ed and Mitch Latting say, "Goodbye, Scott, thanks for coming, and have a safe flight home!"
Scott is on his way home to Santa Monica. He expected to hit clear skies just east of LPC.
Mina exercises one of her many talents, tending to the scratch on Cliff's arm while her mother, Val Capell, looks on.
Several fellows sit around enjoying the Friday night BBQ.
This shows the kitchen and lounge area of the hangar. It is loaded with interesting stuff, as well as useful features like a kitchen fridge and image projector.
Scott and Glenn Ricketson, who flew over from Porterville in Michael's C-182RG.
Glenn and Cliff are discussing a very useful pilot's app called ForeFlight.
Ed offers some pointers to Richard Wiseman in preparation for his first flight in a Mite.
Richard has a huge smile on his face after his introductory flight and three perfect landings.
The Canadians, Dave Rutherford and David Favrholdt, enjoy the local ale (wherever they are).
